ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø has further strengthened its ties with The Alan Turing Institute, as it joins the UK’s national centre for data science and AI’s newly launched Turing ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Network.

The Turing ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Network is a key component of The Alan Turing Institute's new strategy, which aims to change the world for the better with data science and AI. The network supports the institute in achieving its three ambitious goals: advance world-class research and apply it to national and global challenges, build skills for the future, and drive an informed public conversation.

Sheffield's membership of the Turing ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Network follows a vibrant period of community-building in data science and AI at the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø and throughout the wider region in South Yorkshire. After becoming one of the first ever recipients of the Turing Network Development Awards, the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø has built a across various disciplines to facilitate connections, share knowledge and foster collaboration.

This work is supported by a recent £3.6 million ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø investment in a new Centre for Machine Intelligence (CMI), which will act as a focal point for all AI-related research at the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø of Sheffield. Working with the ºÚÁϳԹÏ꿉۪s flagship research institutes and as well as stakeholders in industry and government, the CMI will revolutionise the ºÚÁϳԹÏ꿉۪s research, innovation and teaching through pioneering AI research and impact.

Haiping Lu, Professor of Machine Learning and Turing Academic Lead at the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø of Sheffield, said: “Our membership of the Turing ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Network is a testament to our proven research impact and accelerating efforts across the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø in data science and AI.

“The partnership will help us to grow our research community and collaborations with The Alan Turing Institute and its broader networks, while building on our expertise in applying data science and AI to real-world challenges in healthcare, manufacturing, automation, sustainability and many others.â€

Donna Brown, Director of Academic Engagement at The Alan Turing Institute, added: “We’re delighted to launch a new UK-wide university network of data science and AI expertise via the Turing ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Network.

“The network is crucial to successful delivery of the Institute Strategy, enables our role as a national convenor in the data science and AI landscape, and creates opportunity for meaningful collaboration where interests align across research and innovation, skills, and engagement."
